Interests/Hobbies: I love all things outdoors during any season! In the warmer months, I enjoy running, cycling, soccer, volleyball, and gardening. When it’s arguably too cold outside, I like skiing (downhill and XC) and rock climbing. Also love a lazy morning watching premier league soccer or supporting my favorite team, Barcelona.

Why HCMC? I chose HCMC because of the incredible training environment and opportunity to serve such a diverse patient population. Everyone at Hennepin is passionate about emergency medicine and committed to providing the best quality of care to patients. I firmly believe residency training here will prepare me for any career in emergency medicine, both locally and globally.

Hometown: Orange County, CA

Interests/Hobbies: I love the outdoors, particularly around water; I grew up spending a lot of time at the river boating and wakeboarding, so I’m excited to be surrounded by so many lakes and rivers! My wife is a self-proclaimed foodie, so we’ll definitely search out all the best restaurants and niche spots to eat. I can also be a bit of a homebody, watching movies, playing board or video games, reading, and cuddling with my cats. 

Why HCMC? I chose HCMC because when I rotated here, I immediately felt at home. The residents were incredibly welcoming, encouraging, and supportive. I loved the structure of the didactics, the autonomy was unmatched, and the pit boss role was unlike anything I had seen elsewhere. Exploring the Twin Cities during my days off was also so much fun for both me and my wife. Moving closer to extended family and having a strong support system nearby made HCMC feel like the perfect fit both personally and professionally.

Interests/Hobbies: I love spending time outside especially on the lake during a Minnesota summer. I also running, reading, traveling, or trying out any new activity. I try to spend as much time with friends and family, especially my nephews, as much as possible!

Why HCMC? Hennepin had everything I was looking for in a program! I was impressed by the residents’ skill-level and knowledge as well as their commitment to providing high-quality care to their patients. There was also a strong sense of community amongst the residents, faculty, and ED staff. I knew I would be challenged and supported to become the best physician I can be while serving a diverse, underserved patient population.

Interests/Hobbies: I enjoy just about anything outdoors, including camping, hiking, snowboarding, running, biking, boating, surfing, canoeing in the Boundary Waters, and fishing. I also love concerts, breweries, live sporting events, and spending time with friends and family.

Why HCMC? I chose HCMC because the training experience is truly unmatched. During my third year of medical school, I was fortunate to complete all of my core rotations at Hennepin, and every rotation afterward made me miss being there. I still remember feeling genuinely sad about leaving during my last shift, and that’s when I knew Hennepin was where I wanted to be. I was drawn not only to the exceptional hands-on training but also to the diverse and underserved patient population. Hennepin felt like a place where I could make a meaningful difference in patients’ lives while becoming the best physician possible.  

Hometown: Plymouth, MN

Medical School: AT Still University Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine

Interests/Hobbies: I’m always on the lookout for a new coffee shop or pizza spot wherever I go. Outside of that, I love grilling at parks or by the lake, casually biking around Minnesota, kayaking, and spending as much time near the water as I can.
Why HCMC? I grew up in the Minneapolis suburbs, so HCMC was never some random hospital to me. It was the place that took care of some of the sickest and most complicated patients in the region, and the place people could turn to when they did not have many other options. I wanted to come back and train in the community that shaped me, while serving the patients and families who call it home. HCMC has the volume, acuity, autonomy, ultrasound training, and patient population to keep pushing me to grow, whether I feel ready for it or not. Just as important, the residents I worked with during my M4 audition rotation were the kind of people I wanted to become: quick, clinically strong, calm when things got chaotic, and still fun to be around when the shift was over. That made HCMC an easy choice.

Undergrad: Sewanee: The University of the South

Medical School: AT Still University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona

Interests/Hobbies: I am happy to be outside in any capacity, whether it’s camping, hiking, gardening, snowboarding, paddleboarding, or just sitting out on a patio somewhere warm. If there is a patch of sunshine, I will find it! I also love slow mornings, evening walks, trying new recipes, reading non-medical things, going to trivia and live music, and hanging out with friends.

Why HCMC? HCMC was honestly the dark horse of my residency rank list. I have no ties to the Midwest and I did not rotate at Hennepin before applying, but after the interview and second look sessions, I knew it would end up at the top of my list. I was incredibly impressed by the program’s emphasis on social medicine and their obvious commitment to both the patient population and the surrounding community. Everyone I interacted with during the interview process was genuinely kind and welcoming, and it seemed like the residents felt equally challenged and supported throughout their time in training. The program’s longstanding reputation and training model speaks for itself, and I knew that the combination of autonomy and exposure at HCMC would fully prepare me for whatever path I chose after residency regardless of location or environment. Finally, people kept telling my fiancé and I that we would love Minneapolis — so we figured we should probably just come find out for ourselves!

Why HCMC? I chose HCMC because of the dedication to producing top clinicians who are part of cutting edge research and understand that exceptional clinical practice is not possible without incorporating social and intersectional frameworks. I did not find any other program that had tangible and active workflow, framework, and people dedicated to these issues.
