Launched in 1972, the Emergency Medicine Residency Program at Hennepin County is the second-oldest in the U.S. and is still at the forefront of critical care education and training.
The five-year Emergency Medicine/Internal Medicine Residency at HCMC offers residents unprecedented clinical training in emergency and internal medicine with a diverse patient population, all in a comprehensive academic healthcare system.
Our rotation offers the opportunity to train in a large, safety-net hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Nationally recognized, HCMC was Minnesota’s first Level 1 Trauma Center and continues to be the state’s largest provider for emergency care.
Our department has 8 fellowships programs: Critical Care, Emergency Medical Services, Global Health / International EM, Hyperbaric Medicine, MedEd & Simulation, EM Research, Toxicology, and Ultrasound.
At Hennepin EM, we develop emergency physicians that provide the complete spectrum of emergency care in diverse settings and communities while advancing the field of Emergency Medicine. We provide residents with comprehensive training in an innovative, high-acuity setting. We endeavor to promote a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and excellence. We value diversity, equity, and inclusion in addition to engagement with our institution, specialty, and community.
When residents match at Hennepin EM, they become a part of legacy of compassionate patient care, innovation, and advancement within the field of emergency medicine. They also become members of a family and a community.
