Daniel Cox, MD

Daniel Cox, MD

PGY2 Emergency Medicine Resident

Hometown: Houston, MN
Undergrad: Winona State University
Medical School: University of Minnesota Medical School
Medical Interest: My interests are taking care of sick people. I found I was most interested and involved during medical school the sicker the patient was. Also I love taking care of kids. They are the most genuine patients I could ask for. And as a parent, I empathize with their parents.
Interests/Hobbies: Spending time with my family, biking, wilderness camping and running.

Why HCMC? I wanted to take care of sick people and they come here for their care. I spent a month here as a medical student and was impressed with the level of teaching done in the department daily. I worked with the G3s or “pit bosses” and they seemed to be the most competent residents I worked with in any specialty. So I knew walking out here I would hopefully be just as competent.

I wanted the opportunity to care for a diverse and vulnerable patient population, to truly integrate bedside ultrasound into my practice, have an outstanding critical care experience, and develop my ability to lead in the department. HCMC fits the bill to a tee and is an environment where I will be consistently challenged to step outside of my comfort zone and also supported by outstanding faculty and coresidents. Why HCMC? I didn’t rotate here- the reputation attracted me and it was my gut feeling that kept me. Or maybe it was the burritos and beer at my journal club interview, followed by really involved discussion. The autonomy starting as an intern is unrivaled, transforming to the supervisory Pit Boss role as a senior. Some of the brightest minds and innovators in EM practice teach here. There’s a huge emphasis on ultrasound, no competition for procedures and ortho, amazing staff and faculty, and the ED has the strongest voice in the hospital.
