After more than 5 years serving in the role of Emergency Medicine Residency Program Director (PD), Dr. Richard Gray stepped down from the position in October 2016. He will continue to practice at HCMC as faculty and a provider of support to residents. In his place, Danielle Hart, MD has been named the new Program Director.
Dr. Hart graduated from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Jersey, and then completed residency in EM at HCMC in 2008. After residency, Dr. Hart completed a fellowship in simulation and education at HCMC. She was instrumental in the creation of the HCMC Interdisciplinary Simulation and Education Center (ISEC) and continues to serve as its director. Dr. Hart was instrumental in transforming the core curriculum from a lecture-based format to a more interactive “flipped classroom” model with more case-based learning.
Dr. Hart has served as Associate Program Director (APD) throughout Dr. Gray’s tenure as PD, and has been intimately involved in the administration of the residency for many years. Her experience as APD and with the residency’s Core Competency Committee (CCC) and Program Evaluation and Improvement Committee (PEIC) will provide for a smooth transition. Now as PD, her commitment to a process of continual improvement in all areas of the residency is expected to continue improving the already strong state of the Emergency Medicine Residency at HCMC.
